Primary

All parents want to give their children the best headstart in life. That's why Seven Meadows is proudly served by Katy Independent School District (Katy ISD).

KISD uses proven instructional strategies so that children learn basic skills to build a foundation where critical thinking and other higher order thought processes are developed. To prepare students for the 21st century, state-of-the-art technology is used in the instructional programs. Along with regular classrooms, each KISD elementary school contains art, music, and resource classrooms, as well as a library, computer lab, gymnasium and cafeteria. KISD offers a full-day Kindergarten program.

Secondary

There is no underestimating the importance of high quality secondary education in today's fast-changing and competitive world.

Seven Meadows students benefit from junior and senior high schools that receive strong support from the community. KISD students consistently score well above the national average on standardized tests. More than 80% of high school graduates in Katy ISD go on to college.

KISD junior high schools have adopted the middle school education approach that is sensitive to the academic, social and emotional needs of the adolescent.

KISD high schools are trailblazers when it comes to innovative course offerings. For example, students may enroll in college courses that earn dual high school credit (courses that earn both high school and college credit) or take Advanced Placement classes and AP exams for college credit. A multitude of elective courses address individual interests and aptitudes.

Gifted and Talented

Katy ISD provides a GT program for identified students in grades K-12.  For more information about the gifted program and identification criteria and deadlines, go to http://www.katyisd.org/curriculum/gt_advanced_academics.htm

Special Needs

One of Katy ISD's goals is to provide students with disabilities valuable educational experiences that prepare them for the future. Therefore, each student with a disability has the opportunity to participate in an appropriate educational setting designed to meet his/her individual needs.

Most students with disabilities can be taught on their home school campus by the regular classroom teacher with support provided by special education professionals. Since all students need to have a sense of belonging, it is important to include students with disabilities with their peer groups.

The Special Education Department adheres to a continuum of program options and related services to meet the needs of eligible disabled students. These include, mainstream, Content Mastery Centers, itinerant services, helping teacher, resource, self-contained, vocational, hospital and home-bound programs, regional day school for the deaf, preschool programs for children with disabilities, early childhood intervention, extended-year services, Braille instruction and orientation and mobility instruction.

The Special Education Advisory Council serves as a resource network and a forum for dialog on special education issues in the Katy Independent School District.

Organic Fertilizer.

Newland Communities is committed to using organic fertilizer for hundreds of acres of landscaped right-of-way and common areas in our Houston communities.  Unlike chemical-based fertilizer, organic fertilizer is natural and safe for plants and soils, and doesn´t create runoff that contaminates area waterways.

Hazardous Waste Recycling Programs.

Some of the most common household items, such as paint cans, batteries and old electronic components, are not appropriate for landfills, but are not collected along with more common recyclables such as plastic and paper.  To help the 10,000 families currently living in active Newland Communities in the Houston area recycle responsibly, we are committed to educating and providing regular hazardous waste recycling programs to the fullest extent of our ability.

Storm Sewer Identification Systems.

Few people recognize storm sewers, much less realize the significance of what happens when anything other than rainwater goes into them.  Bottom line ? any liquid or solid substance inserted into a storm sewer flows untreated into area waterways, and ultimately makes its way to the ocean.  To educate residents and help prevent storm sewer pollution, Newland Communities has adopted a program of placing educational labels on such sewers in all of its Houston area communities.

Celebrating Arbor Day.

To help residents of all ages learn about the important benefits of planting and protecting trees, Newland Communities plans annual Arbor Day celebrations in each of its Houston communities.  In addition to education, the trees distributed and planted during these events make a significant contribution to our year-round tree planting and reforestation efforts in all communities.
